Pictured is Arcos Bosques II, An emblematic building by the late Mexican Architect Teodoro Gonzales de Leon. Out of the frame to the left is the more famous building, Arcos Bosques I, also known as “

Fun fact, Teodoro Gonzales de Leon died on the same day I had my first date with my ex girlfriend.
To probably missquote Bman “Modernism seems to only work in Latin America.”
I took a drive this night to think about stuff and waste some gas and some time. I ended up thinking about nothing important. Which is the government.
Dutchie asked a few days ago if I
actually
like anything about Mexico, because it seems as if I’m always bitching about it when I’m on oppo. Well, I thought about it and I really don’t understand how this country could exist.
It seems like everything is relatively OK by sheer luck. Like our incompetence has little to no consequences to our well being. Or at least my well being.
My cousin studied political sciences (unsurprisingly, he didn’t actually end up working in his field) but he coined a phrase... “It’s impossible to keep up (with the government), and it seems like people die at tremendous rates.”
It’s a very deadly place, but no one I know dies. They seem to be in a fairly selective group. We tend to forget that the annual deaths due to smoking and due to pollution are 500% higher than the yearly deaths due to homicide.
Oh, but the government bought coal for electrical power stations.
Anyway. I was just doodling around town, I called a friend to question whether she’s been succesful getting some #content for a website I designed for her as a gift, and she said she did!
So that was nice.
I also decided it would be fun to powersteer out of this corner on my way home just outside La Hormiga ranch, also known as the former residence of the President of Mexico.
The complex, made up of various houses and a military base, has been decomissioned since December of last year. So no one was there.
Why? Because I’m a jackass.

Certainly. Just going for a drive is a great way for me to think about something, and often resolve something on my mind by relaxing and focusing intentionally on something else. Taking a drive has certainly been part of my decision making process at points in my life.
Regarding the rest of your post, the biggest lesson I learned in the Marine Corps is that something is what you make of it. The analog of it is all in your head. You can be in a crappy situation, but you can decide not to be miserable in it. Th at’s not to say that you don’t care, or don’t dedicate everything you have to fighting to improve it, but you can decide to get the best out of it you can.
I’d offer that the wonderful, warm vibrant culture of Mexico is the result of her people choosing to make the best of a situation rife with problems and shortcomings (and no shortage of severe ones) and a hand that often isn’t fairly dealt. I’d offer that choice in adversity is one of the greatest attributes of your country.

I have nothing but the upmost respect for those who find creative ways to survive and be happy in this country, specially those who haven’t been as lucky as I have to be born into a relatively wealthy family or in this particular city
.
But it’s just so
tiring
not to be able to depend on the government, even for the most basic things. Everytime I think about it I get angry because there’s so much waste, so much incompetence it’s uncanny. My standards are already pretty low but they always seem to surprise me with something ridiculous every. single. fucking. day.

This reminds me a lot to the generation behind mine; they bared much of the worst years of corruption and violence, my parents specifically, who despite living here, and having a chance to move out, prefered to stay and see the brighter side of living here...w
hich
is the absolute liberty that the gubernamental negligence affords us. Likely exemplified by
the fact that I probably broke four or five traffic ordinances next to the President's house and no one was there to stop me.
I think we forget how vital the government is in a nation. I’m envious of how comparatively
perfect the American and Spanish governments are... Yet whenever I visit those countries the people there don’t seem to understand how blessed they are; even with the rough edges.

Just driving puts my head on straight. That and riding. They've gotten me through when I've been at my lowest. The open road makes all my issues melt away. It is my therapy.

I used to all the time when I lived somewhere nice (Denver) but now I live somewhere shitty (Chicago) and my car situation is a lot worse so I don't really very much anymore, which sucks because it is a great way to decompress for me.

Eve ryone loves to complain, and you always get the "if I was in charge" effect. Thank god most of these people aren't in charge.

It forces you to focus more on the task than on the thought.
